Who Is Josh & Matt?
Josh Taylor’s journey into tuning began almost two decades ago when he first stepped into a dealership for work experience. What started as a weekly commitment quickly grew into a full apprenticeship at just 16!
With a passion for automotive mechanics ignited early on, Josh honed his skills across various dealerships, working on a number of different vehicles and models. It was during this time that he crossed paths with Matt Ashley, where he solidified his dedication to tuning.
Staying late after hours to absorb as much knowledge as possible, Josh was offered a tuning position three years later. His expertise now spans across a diverse range of vehicles, from Commodores to Mustangs and beyond, establishing him as a seasoned professional.
Matt Ashley’s journey into tuning took a bit of a different path. Without a mechanical background, his tuning experience is self-taught. Matt’s fascination with tuning ignited in 2010 after encountering a botched tuning job on a friend’s car.
Frustrated by the lack of local expertise, they scoured online resources and collaborated with experts internationally to get the vehicle back on track. Late nights and persistence eventually paid off and his professional career took shape!
He started managing a small engine shop, where he transitioned from business management to hands-on tuning positions. This experience laid the groundwork for Matt to venture into his own business. Today, Matt’s innovative approach through EasyTune not only tackles tuning challenges but also pioneers software development that push the boundaries of Toyota performance.
Together, Josh Taylor and Matt Ashley bring a wealth of combined experience and dedication, each contributing a unique perspective and skill set that continues to shape and innovate the industry.
Drag Racing: Putting The 300 Series To The Test
You might have seen our drag race video, where we put the 300 Series Landcruiser to the ultimate test against a lineup of formidable 4WD competitors. It wasn’t just about speed and power, but a showcase of the 300 series ability to truly achieve optimal performance.
The goal for the day was clear: to see how our tuned and optimised 300 series stacked up against Nissan Patrols, Ram 1500s, Chevys, Ford Ranger Raptors and more. Despite scorching temperatures on race day, detailed in Episode 3, the results were nothing short of astonishing!
Utilising advanced features like launch control and a highly efficient heat exchange system, our team achieved impressive starts and maintained competitive edge throughout multiple runs. Despite initial doubts and long night spent prepping, our 300 Series exceeded expectations, consistently challenging and sometimes surpassing its larger competitors.
This has only proved that power and performance is more than just speed, but consistency and reliability. What’s a powerful vehicle when you can’t depend on it to deliver time and again?

More On Tuning
In episode 3, Matt and the guys get into the nitty gritty of their passion for tuning. From the things they’ve worked on to how they’ve developed their multi-map tuning systems. The guys are constantly striving for bigger and better, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in Toyota tuning. performance.
Their first breakthrough came with the development of a dual-tune system featuring boost control and injection limiters. But, this initial offering highlighted the need for a more versatile solution, prompting extensive research and development.
This is where their multi-mapping solution was born – a game-changing technique that involves creating multiple maps for different driving conditions. This allows for precise control over parameters, optimising performance across various scenarios.
They initially opted for a 12-switch solution, but quickly proved cumbersome, leading them to streamline to a more manageable 6-switch multi-map system. However, tuning multiple maps requires meticulous attention to detail, with no shortcuts in the mapping and tuning process. Each map is individually calibrated through rigorous trial and error, ensuring optimal performance.
Custom Tools & Software
At Just Autos, innovation is at the heart of everything we do. We are always looking for ways to be the best in what we do and what we offer. That’s why we’ve developed our own proprietary tool – EasyTune.
This advanced tool revolutionises data logging, offering capabilities far beyond standard industry tools. Initially logging data at 5 hertz per second, but quickly upgraded to 60 hertz—60 times a second. This allows Josh, Matt and the team to analyse data faster and more accurately, uncovering nuances and issues that are notoriously difficult to detect, allowing us to deliver precise tuning solutions tailored to each customer’s specific needs.
But we’re not stopping there. We are constantly updating and enhancing the software, integrating new features and functionalities that enhance performance and user experience. From the customer’s perspective, EasyTune is set to offer a unique convenience—allowing users to request updates or modifications remotely. Once approved, customers receive a notification to seamlessly upload changes directly to their vehicles, whether they’re on the dyno or at home!
The Future Of Tuning
So, what’s next? We’ve mastered multi-mapping and introduced our cutting-edge EasyTune tool with a full suite of functionalities. Yet, our drive to innovate never stops!
Behind the scenes, we’ve made significant progress, rewriting Toyota’s speed control for the boost control system on the 71 series. This upgrade addresses limitations in the factory system – a problem we’ve seen with many clients – enhancing performance and reliability.
Live Tuning is another exciting initiative we’re implementing, despite it not being natively supported by Toyota. This capability allows us to fine-tune vehicles in real-time, optimising performance under all conditions more efficiently than ever before.
